Glossary of a few terms commonly used in our services.

AROMATHERAPY - Therapeutic use of plant essences to create aromatic essential oils that enhances physical and emotional benefits

CALLUS - A thickened portion of the epidermal layer - usually found on the lung and heart reflex - of the skin. Repeated fricition and pressure causes calluses.

 CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM - Consists of the brain, brain stem and the spinal cord. Control movement and the automatic activities of the body such as breathing,  digestion and heart beat.

CONTRAINDICATION - Any number of factors that makes it unwise to pursue a certain line of treatment. Relfexologist will chose not work on a client if contraindications such as recent foot surgery, edemna, sprains and contagious and infectious diseases at are percieved.

DIAPHRAGM LINE -This line runs from the medial to the lateral edge on the bottom of the foot from the pad under the first toe (big toe) to under the pad of the last toe (little toe)

HELPER AREA - Reflex areas worked in specific combinations that provide relief to an area of congestion.

HOLISTIC -  A way of living, thinking and being taking into account body, mind, soul and spirit

HOMEOSTASIS - The body’s ability to maintain stability or balance. It is the body's unconscious ability to regulate such things as temperature and gland secretions.

MERIDIANS - undetectable line of energy that flow lengthwise throughout the body.

REFERRAL AREA - an area that works one part of the body to help another.

REFLEX POINTS - points at the bottom of the feet, hands, face and ears that relate to specific parts of the physical body

REFLEXOLOGY - A science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands, which corresponds to all the glands, organs and parts of the body. Reflexology is a unique method of using the thumbs and fingers on these reflex areas.

SCIATICA - A sharp pain felt down the back and outer side of the thigh, leg and foot. 

WAIST LINE -This line runs from the medial to the lateral edge on the plantar surface of the foot at the base of the metatarsal heads.

ZONES - Imaginary lines which run from the head to the toes and divide the body into ten (10) sections.

ZONE THERAPY - also known as reflexology, a term coined by Dr. Fitzgerald
